Hi there, welcome, so happy you’re here!

Who am I?

I’m Marissa, a 30 year old who is coffee and adventure crazed. My purpose in life is to know Him more and to make Him known. I only hope that these words I share will give you encouragement, life, love, understanding, a strengthening of your faith and a deeper knowledge of who God is.

Some of My Favorite Things

1. Sunsets – if you can’t tell with the title, I’m kind of a big sunset girl.
2. Traveling – I find that I come alive when I travel and find a lot of creativity/inspiration.
3. Writing – Well, let’s be honest, I enjoy writing most of the time (when the words are flowing).
4. Tacos and Guacamole – Seriously, need I say more?
5. My Daily Walks – I started doing these recently and they are a mental health game changer!
6. Fall – I’m not a pumpkin spice latte girl (I drink my coffee black, gasp!) but fall is the best.
7. The Ocean – There’s no calm like the calm I get when standing near the ocean.
8. Christmas – Seriously, my all time favorite music; I’m a “too-soon” Christmas music girl (sorry).

The Reason Behind Faith & Sunsets

One of my missions in life these days is to slow down. To learn to savor the moments, the small things again. All of the things I used to love without having to force myself to love them – small sips of coffee in the morning, reading a good book, sitting on the patio, watching a sunset, listening to a good song. I invite you on this journey to learn how to get back to the basics again as Faith & Sunsets is meant to help both myself and you do just that.

Why I’m Writing

In the last few years of my life I’ve sensed this huge push to start writing. Truthfully, I’m not all that sure that I know what that looks like or what I’m specifically called to write. And not knowing has actually caused me to NOT do it entirely (see more about why I’m choosing to do it anyways here). Journey along with me as I work to find my words, the ones that God wants me to share and in the way He wants me to share them.

Disclaimer on My Writing

I’m just an average person. God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called. I don’t pretend to be a Minister, a theologian, or someone with years on years of degrees or awards for this stuff. I’m simply a Christ-follower trying to be obedient with a talent He’s given me. If I screw up, I’ll admit it along the way. I’m an imperfect person. I pray that the words I write point you to God, not to myself.

I aim to keep things pretty open and vulnerable, as much as I can while still also maintaining my own privacy and that of others in my life. Overall, my goal is to keep it as “real” as I can so that you can see not only the good but also the bad in my life to know that this is a journey with highs and lows and that I haven’t “made it.”
